Why This Vegan Restaurant Introduced Meat
A popular vegan-friendly restaurant chain in Southern California is under fire鈥攆rom vegans. , formerly known as Sage Vegan Bistro, announced earlier this year that it would be introducing some meat items to its menu. But it wouldn鈥檛 be just any meat鈥攖he restaurant will only serve meat produced through regenerative farming.听
Sage鈥檚 chef and owner has faced enormous backlash for saying that living off an exclusively plant-based diet .听
Engelhart is executive chef at Sage Regenerative Kitchen and spoke with 大象传媒 Senior Editor Sonali Kolhatkar on 大象传媒 Presents: Rising Up With Sonali about what regenerative farming is.

Her forthcoming book is called聽Talking About Abolition聽(Seven Stories Press, 2025). Sonali is co-director of the nonprofit group, Afghan Women鈥檚 Mission which she helped to co-found in 2000. She has a Master鈥檚 in Astronomy from the University of Hawai鈥檌, and two undergraduate degrees in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Texas at Austin.
