Can the DOJ Break Up Live Nation鈥檚 Monopoly?
The United States Department of Justice has launched a lawsuit against Live Nation and its ownership of Ticketmaster. According to the , 鈥淭icketmaster is the world鈥檚 largest ticket seller, processing 500 million tickets each year in more than 30 countries. Around 70% of tickets for major concert venues in the U.S. are sold through Ticketmaster.鈥澛
The DOJ lawsuit is seeking to challenge Ticketmaster鈥檚 monopoly power over artist performances, venues, and concert-goers. Emily Peterson-Cassin, director of corporate power at , spoke with 大象传媒 Senior Editor Sonali Kolhatkar on 大象传媒 Presents: Rising Up With Sonali about what a fair resolution of the lawsuit could look like.

Her forthcoming book is called聽Talking About Abolition聽(Seven Stories Press, 2025). Sonali is co-director of the nonprofit group, Afghan Women鈥檚 Mission which she helped to co-found in 2000. She has a Master鈥檚 in Astronomy from the University of Hawai鈥檌, and two undergraduate degrees in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Texas at Austin.
